Napoli and Roma set new records in the European Cups

Napoli and Roma set a couple of records in the UEFA Cups Group Stage.

Napoli won all their 6 matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding 3; their performance is the best in the history of Europa League's Group Stage, as other 6 teams won all the matches in the Group Stage, but not with such a large goal difference (+19).

Roma is the worst team to have gone through the Champions League's Group Stage, with only 6 points, 11 goals scored and 16 conceded. Also Zenit in 2013/2014 made 6 points and passed the round, but with a goal difference of -4.

Napoli e Roma hanno stabilito due nuovi record nella fase a gironi delle Coppe Europee.

Il Napoli ha vinto tutte le 6 partite giocate, segnando 22 reti e subendone 3; questo rendimento è il migliore nella storia dei gironi dell'Europa League, dato che altre 6 squadre hanno passato il turno a punteggio pieno, ma mai con una differenza reti così ampia (+19).

La Roma invece è la peggior squadra ad aver superato la fase a gironi della Champions League, con soli 6 punti, 11 gol fatti e 16 subiti. Anche lo Zenit nel 2013/2014 superò il turno con 6 punti, ma con una differenza reti di -4.

According to the ECRS, after the group stage the top three teams in the European Cups are the same as after the 5th matchday:
1) Krasnodar (Russia), with 237,80 points.
2) Rapid Wien (Austria), with 225,01 points.
3) Saint-Étienne (France), with 202,65 points.
Krasnodar and Rapid won the last match, while Saint-Étienne drew.

The best team in Champions League until now is Wolfsburg (Germany), who are at the 5th position with 196,11 points.

The worst team still in the competition is Sevilla (Spain), with 76,66 points (97th position).

Real Madrid and Ronaldo to set new records

Real Madrid's victory against Malmoe 8-0 on last Tuesday equalled the biggest victory in the history of the Champions League group stage.
The result equals Liverpool's 8-0 win against Besiktas on 6 November 2007, when Real manager Rafa Benitez was in charge.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals, Benzema three and Kovacic one.
Ronaldo, already the top scorer in the history of CL with 88 goals, is also the first player to score more than 10 goals in the group stages in one edition (he scored 11 in 6 matches).

La vittoria di martedì del Real Madrid che ha battuto 8-0 il Malmoe ha eguagliato la più larga vittoria nella storia dei gironi della Champions League.
Questo risultato è infatti pari all'8-0 inflitto dal Liverpool al Beskitas il 6 novembre 2007, quando l'attuale allenatore del Real, Rafa Benitez, era l'allenatore proprio dei Reds.

Cristiano Ronaldo ha segnato quattro gol, Benzema tre e Kovacic uno.

Roma worsened their own negative record in Champions League

In the 5th Champions League matchday, played last week, Roma managed to worsen a record they already held: they lost for the 3rd time (against 3 different teams) conceding at least 6 goals in a CL non-qualifying round.
They lost 1-6 away against Barcelona, after having lost 1-7 in 2006-2007 in the Quarter-finals against Manchester United, and again 1-7 last year at home against Bayern Munich in the group stage.
Roma were already the only team to have lost twice conceding at least 7 goals.

Nel quinto turno dei gironi di Champions League, giocato la scorsa settimana, la Roma è riuscita a peggiorare un record che già le apparteneva: ha perso per la terza volta (contro 3 avversari diversi) subendo almeno 6 reti in un turno di CL successivo a quelli di qualificazione.
Ha perso infatti 1-6 a Barcellona, dopo aver perso 1-7 nel 2006-2007 nei quarti di finale contro il Manchester United, e ancora 1-7 l'anno scorso in casa contro il Bayern Monaco nella fase a gironi.
La Roma era già l'unica squadra ad aver perso due volte subendo almeno 7 reti.

New record by Jamie Vardy

Leicester's forwarder, Jamie Vardy, set a new record yesterday, scoring for the 11th consecutive match in Premier League. The former record was held by Ruud Van Nistelrooij (Manchester United).
In this season, Vardy scored 14 goals in 14 matches; he played 1237 minutes, so he scored once every 88 minutes. His great performance has been crucial for Leicester to climb to the first place in the Premier League.
This is even more astonishing if you think that in 2011-2012 Vardy played in the Conference Premier, the 5th English league.

L'attaccante del Leicester Jamie Vardy ha stabilito ieri un nuovo record, avendo segnato per l'11esima partita consecutiva in Premier League. Il record precedente apparteneva a Ruud Van Nistelrooij (Manchester United).
In questa stagione Vardy ha segnato 14 reti in 14 partite; ha giocato 1237 minuti, segnando quindi ogni 88 minuti. Il suo ottimo rendimento è stato decisivo per portare il Leicester al primo posto in Premier League.
Questo è ancora più sorprendente se si pensa che nel 2011-2011 Vardy giocava nella Conference Premier, la quinta divisione inglese.

According to the ECRS, after the fifth matchday of the Group Stage the best club in the European Cups is Krasnodar (Russia), whose victory yesterday against Borussia Dortmund was crucial to go to the top place of the ranking with 212,15 points.
The former number 1, Rapid Wien (Austria), are now at the second place with 196,21 points.
The third team is Saint-Étienne (France), with a score of 189,35.

The best team in Champions League until now is still Zenit (Russia), who are at the 11th position with 155,27 points.

The worst team still in the competition is Lyon (France), with 32,15 points (217th position). Until now they gained only one point in their group in Champions League.

Best teams in scoring first

I computed some stats for the last season (2014/2015) regarding the teams who score first the most of the times.

I considered two kinds of "efficiencies":
1) how good was a team in scoring first, compared to the total number of matches; I gave 1 point for a match which a team scored first in, and 0,5 points for a match ended 0-0; then I applied the formula (score + n of matches) / (n of matches * 2); for example, for the English Premier League teams it is (score + 38) / 76; the final outcome, which I call coefficient, is between 0,5 and 1;
2) how good were the teams in keeping the lead after they scored first: I just counted the average points made by a team in the matches which they scored first in.

I considered only the teams who scored the first goal in at least half of the games played, and only in the 6 main European Leagues.

These are the best teams.

Best teams in scoring first:
1) Porto (Portugal) with a coefficient of 0,941 (in 34 matches, they scored first 29 times and twice they ended 0-0)
2) Barcelona (Spain) with a coefficient of 0,908 (in 38 matches, they scored first 30 times and twice they ended 0-0)
3) Benfica (Portugal) with a coefficient of 0,897 (in 34 matches, they scored first 26 times and twice they ended 0-0)

Best teams in keeping the lead after they scored first:
1) Barcelona (Spain) 2,767 avg points (27 Wins, 2 Draws and 1 Loss)
2) Sevilla (Spain) 2,727 avg points (19 W, 3 D)
3) Porto (Portugal) 2,724 avg points (25 W, 4 D)

I also got a final score, which is given by the multiplication of the two scores above. The top three teams in the last season were:
1) Porto (Portugal) with a score of 2,564 (0,941 * 2,724)
2) Barcelona (Spain) with a score of 2,512 (0,908 * 2,767)
3) Benfica (Portugal) with a score of 2,415 (0,897 * 2,692)

Ho calcolato alcune statistiche per la scorsa stagione (2014/2015) riguardo le squadre che hanno segnato per prime più volte.

Ho preso in considerazione due tipi di "efficienza":
1) quante volte una squadra ha segnato per prima in rapporto al numero totale di partite; ho dato 1 punto per ogni partita in cui la squadra ha segnato per prima, e 0,5 punti per ogni partita terminata 0-0; quindi applico la formula (punteggio + n° di partite) / (n° di partite * 2); per esempio, per la serie A il calcolo è (punteggio + 38) / 76; il risultato finale, che chiamo coefficiente, è compreso tra 0,5 e 1;
2) quanti punti, in media, ha fatto una squadra nelle partite in cui segna per prima.

Ho considerato solo le squadre che hanno segnato per prime un numero di volte pari almeno alla metà delle partite giocate, e solo nei 6 principali campionati europei.

In generale, il risultato più frequente è stato il pareggio 1-1 in Francia nel 2010/2011, con una percentuale del 16,58% (63 partite su 380 sono terminate con questo punteggio).

Quest'anno il risultato più frequente è la vittoria interna per 1-0 in Portogallo, con una percentuale del 20,45% (18 partite su 88).

Il risultato più strano è quello dell'Inghilterra, che sia l'anno scorso che quest'anno (almeno fino ad ora) registra come risultato più frequente la vittoria per 1-0 in trasferta.
Anche in Germania quest'anno il risultato più frequente finora è lo stesso.

According to the ECRS, after the fourth matchday of the Group Stage the best club in the European Cups is Rapid Wien (Austria), who went up from the 3rd place after having beaten Viktoria Plzen 2-1 away in the latest round; now they have 196,94 points.
Molde (Norway) gained 3 position and now they are 2nd with 184,55 points.
The third team is Monaco (France), with a score of 177,12.
The former number 1, Midtjylland, fell to the 5th position after the defeat 0-5 against Napoli.

The best team in Champions League until now is Zenit (Russia), who are at the 15th position with 127,83 points.

The worst team still in the competition is Lyon (France), with 33,81 points (208th position). Until now they gained only one point in their group in Champions League.

Monaco (France) gained a position and now they are at the second place with 162,55 points.
The third team is Rapid Wien (Austria), with 156,35 points.
All the first five teams in the ranking started the season in Champions League but they were eliminated and now they are playing the Group Stage in Europa League.

At the 12th position we find the best club still in the Champions League, which is Wolfsburg (Germany) with 120,73 points.

The worst team still in the competition is Club Brugge (Belgium). Finally they managed to get a point (away against Legia Warsaw), but they have only 16,42 points (233rd position).

I made a statistic about how many minutes, on average, each club has led or trailed so far this season.

I consider only the teams of the top divisions in England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain, and only the domestic leagues' games.

At the moment, the best leading teams are:
Fiorentina (Italy), with an average of 54,7 minutes leading
Eibar (Spain) 51,9 minutes
Real Madrid (Spain) 49,7 minutes
Sporting CP (Portugal) 46,9 minutes
Porto (Portugal) 46,1 minutes

The teams that trailed the least are more or less the same as above:
